Invisalign has revolutionised orthodontic treatment by offering a clear, comfortable, and effective alternative to traditional metal braces. This innovative system of clear aligners is designed to address a wide range of orthodontic issues, helping patients achieve straighter teeth and a healthier smile without the need for conspicuous braces. Let’s explore the various orthodontic issues that Invisalign can correct, how the treatment works, its benefits, and considerations for patients considering this popular option.

What orthodontic issues can Invisalign correct - Kirkintilloch Orthodontic ClinicUnderstanding Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign treatment involves a series of clear, custom-made aligners that are worn over the teeth to gradually move them into the desired position. These aligners are made from a flexible, medical-grade plastic material and are designed using advanced 3D imaging technology. Each set of aligners is worn for about 20 to 22 hours per day for one to two weeks before being replaced with the next set in the series. This process continues until the teeth have shifted into their final positions as planned by the orthodontist.

Orthodontic Issues Addressed by Invisalign

Invisalign can effectively correct a variety of orthodontic issues, ranging from mild to moderate complexity. Here are the common dental problems that Invisalign can treat:

  1. Crowding: Crowding occurs when there is insufficient space in the jaw for all of the teeth to align properly. This can cause teeth to overlap or twist, leading to difficulties in cleaning and increased risk of dental problems such as cavities and gum disease. Invisalign aligners gradually move crowded teeth into their correct positions, creating a straighter and more harmonious smile.
  2. Spacing: Spacing issues, also known as gaps between teeth, can occur due to various reasons, including missing teeth or abnormal jaw growth. Invisalign can close these gaps by gently moving the teeth closer together over time. Closing spaces not only improves the appearance of the smile but also enhances dental functionality and reduces the risk of gum problems associated with unevenly spaced teeth.
  3. Overbite: An overbite occurs when the upper front teeth overlap excessively over the lower front teeth. This misalignment can lead to wear and tear on the teeth, jaw pain, and even speech problems. Invisalign aligners can gradually reposition the upper teeth to reduce the overbite, improving both dental function and facial aesthetics.
  4. Underbite: Conversely, an underbite occurs when the lower teeth protrude further forward than the upper teeth when the mouth is closed. This condition can cause uneven wear on the teeth, difficulty chewing, and potential jaw joint problems. Invisalign treatment can address underbites by moving the lower teeth back or the upper teeth forward to achieve a more balanced bite.
  5. What orthodontic issues can Invisalign correct - Kirkintilloch Orthodontic ClinicCrossbite: A crossbite occurs when some of the upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth when biting down. This can lead to tooth wear, gum recession, and asymmetrical jaw growth. Invisalign aligners can correct crossbites by gradually moving the misaligned teeth into their proper positions, ensuring a more aligned bite and improving overall dental health.
  6. Open Bite: An open bite is characterised by a gap between the upper and lower teeth when the mouth is closed. This condition can interfere with proper chewing, speech articulation, and dental aesthetics. Invisalign treatment can close an open bite by moving the affected teeth into alignment, improving both function and appearance.
  7. Deep Bite: A deep bite, also known as an overbite, occurs when the upper front teeth excessively cover the lower front teeth when biting down. This can cause wear on the teeth and discomfort in the jaw joints. Invisalign aligners can adjust the position of the upper and lower teeth to correct a deep bite, ensuring a more balanced and functional bite.
  8. Misaligned Midline: The midline is an imaginary line that divides the upper front teeth and lower front teeth. A misaligned midline occurs when this line does not match up with the centre of the face. Invisalign can address a misaligned midline by gradually shifting the teeth to align with the natural curvature of the face, improving facial symmetry and overall smile aesthetics.

Benefits of Invisalign Treatment

In addition to addressing a wide range of orthodontic issues, Invisalign offers several benefits that make it a popular choice among patients:

  • Aesthetic Appeal: One of the primary reasons patients choose Invisalign is its aesthetic appeal. The clear aligners are nearly invisible when worn, allowing patients to undergo orthodontic treatment discreetly. This is particularly appealing to adults and teenagers who may feel self-conscious about wearing traditional metal braces.
  • Comfort: Invisalign aligners are made from smooth, comfortable plastic that is less likely to irritate the gums and cheeks compared to metal braces. There are no wires or brackets that can poke or cause discomfort, making Invisalign a more comfortable orthodontic option.
  • Removability: Unlike traditional braces, which are fixed onto the teeth, Invisalign aligners are removable. Patients can take them out for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, allowing them to maintain their regular oral hygiene routine without any special tools or techniques. This also means there are no dietary restrictions during treatment.
  • Predictable Treatment: Invisalign treatment begins with a 3D digital scan of the patient’s teeth, which allows the orthodontist to create a customised treatment plan. Patients can see a virtual representation of their treatment progress and expected results before they even begin wearing the aligners. This predictability ensures that patients know what to expect throughout their treatment journey.
  • Fewer Orthodontic Visits: Invisalign treatment typically requires fewer orthodontic visits compared to traditional braces. Patients receive multiple sets of aligners at once and only need to visit the orthodontist every six to eight weeks for progress checks and to receive the next sets of aligners. This can be more convenient for patients with busy schedules.
  • Improved Oral Hygiene: Maintaining good oral hygiene is easier with Invisalign aligners compared to traditional braces. Since the aligners are removable, patients can brush and floss their teeth as usual without having to navigate around brackets and wires. This helps prevent plaque buildup, cavities, and gum disease during orthodontic treatment.

What orthodontic issues can Invisalign correct - Kirkintilloch Orthodontic ClinicConsiderations for Invisalign Treatment

While Invisalign is suitable for many orthodontic issues, there are certain considerations that patients should keep in mind:

  • Compliance: Invisalign treatment requires a high level of patient compliance. Aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day to achieve optimal results. Patients must be responsible enough to wear the aligners as prescribed by their orthodontist and to change them at the recommended intervals.
  • Treatment Duration: The duration of Invisalign treatment can vary depending on the complexity of the case and the patient’s adherence to the treatment plan. While some patients may complete treatment in as little as six months, others may require up to two years or more to achieve their desired results.
  • Cost: Invisalign treatment may be more expensive than traditional braces, depending on the patient’s specific treatment needs and location. Patients should discuss costs, payment plans, and insurance coverage with their orthodontist to determine the financial feasibility of treatment.
  • Age Considerations: While Invisalign is suitable for teenagers and adults, it may not be recommended for young children whose teeth and jaws are still developing. Our orthodontist will assess the patient’s dental maturity and recommend the most appropriate treatment option based on their age and orthodontic needs.

You tend to find the 1 star reviews are people who are and will never be self employed ,and look for fault in everything .If this practice was in any way unfit for purpose it would have been closed down many years ago ..let common sense prevail and visit this fine establishment and support your local businesses.
